Proof Engine Stages — Wealth & Means

A teaching-first business idea validation framework. Ten evidence stages, each testing a single assumption before you spend a dollar.

  1. Stage 1: Problem Proof

    Confirm a real, recurring problem exists for a specific group before spending anything else.

    What you're proving: A specific group of people have a recurring, painful problem they would pay to solve — and that you haven't invented it for them.

    Evidence threshold: 5+ unprompted confirmations from your target audience, describing the problem in their own words.

  2. Stage 2: Positioning Proof

    Confirm your offer can be understood in one sentence by a stranger.

    What you're proving: The right person immediately understands your offer, who it's for, and why it's different — in under 10 seconds.

    Evidence threshold: 3+ strangers (not friends) understand your offer without clarification and can repeat it back accurately.

  3. Stage 3: Pricing Proof

    Confirm someone will pay a specific price before you build anything.

    What you're proving: At least 3 people agree to a specific price point — unprompted, without discounts or pressure.

    Evidence threshold: 3 verbal or written commitments to a specific price from people who match your target audience.

  4. Stage 4: Prototype Proof

    Build the minimum version that proves the core utility works.

    What you're proving: You can deliver the core function of your product — and at least one person can complete the primary action without help.

    Evidence threshold: One person completes the primary task using your prototype, without asking for guidance.

  5. Stage 5: Payment Proof

    Confirm real money changes hands at your stated price.

    What you're proving: At least one real transaction completes at your stated price, with no discounts, and the buyer doesn't ask for a refund.

    Evidence threshold: 1 completed transaction at full price from someone outside your personal network.

  6. Stage 6: Traffic Proof

    Confirm you can reach new people repeatedly without paid ads.

    What you're proving: You have at least one repeatable channel that brings in qualified strangers without paying for every click.

    Evidence threshold: 50+ unique visitors from a single organic channel with at least 3 converting to leads or buyers.

  7. Stage 7: Support Proof

    Confirm you can handle customer questions without it consuming all your time.

    What you're proving: You have a documented answer for every common question, and a system that handles most of it without you.

    Evidence threshold: 80% of customer questions answered automatically, with resolution time under 4 hours for the rest.

  8. Stage 8: Terms / Trust Proof

    Confirm your legal baseline and trust signals are in place.

    What you're proving: You have the minimum required policies, and visitors trust your site enough to give you their email or payment info.

    Evidence threshold: Privacy policy, terms of service, and a visible trust block in place. Conversion rate on email or payment is above 2%.

  9. Stage 9: Community Proof

    Confirm users are talking about your product without your prompting.

    What you're proving: Real users mention, share, or advocate for your product in spaces you don't control.

    Evidence threshold: 3+ unprompted public mentions, screenshots, or referrals from existing users.

  10. Stage 10: Formation Proof

    Confirm your legal and operational structure matches your actual risk.

    What you're proving: You have made a deliberate, informed decision about legal structure — and it matches your current stage and risk level.

    Evidence threshold: You can explain your entity choice and the reason for it in two sentences.
