Overview

This template structures the message you send to warm prospects — interview participants, waitlist signups, or community members who expressed interest — when you're ready to ask them to pay. It closes the gap between "sounds interesting" and a completed transaction. Most founders make the ask too vague ("we're launching soon, wanted to let you know") or too aggressive ("buy now, limited time"). This template finds the middle: specific, honest, and direct about what you're asking for.

The structure

**Subject line (email) / opening line (DM):** Reference the previous conversation. "Following up on our call last month about [the problem]" works better than any cold opener.

**One sentence on where you are:** "We've been testing [product name] with a small group over the past few weeks and it's working well enough that we're opening it up to a limited early access cohort."

**One sentence on what they get:** "Early access members get full access at [price] — [X]% off the standard price — and direct input into the features we build next."

**One sentence on the constraint:** "We're limiting this first cohort to [number] people so we can give each member proper attention during onboarding." Make this number real. 20 is credible. "Unlimited early access" is not.

**The ask, plainly stated:** "Would you want to be part of it? Here's the link: [Stripe Payment Link]."

**The follow-up (send three days later if no response):** "Wanted to follow up in case this got buried. Happy to answer any questions before you decide — just reply here."

How to fill it in

Write a separate version for each audience segment. The message to someone you interviewed directly should reference something specific from that conversation. The message to a cold waitlist signup can be more general but should still reference the problem they signed up around.

Send in batches of ten. Wait 48 hours between batches. This gives you time to adjust the message based on responses before reaching your full list.

What the output tells you

A response rate of 20%+ from warm prospects (people you've spoken to directly) is healthy. A click-to-purchase rate of 10%+ from that group is strong. If you're sending to people who know you and getting zero responses, the offer isn't compelling enough or the price is wrong. Ask the first three people who don't respond why they passed — the answer is almost always actionable.
